Nayara Bocas del Toro is an adults-only, all-inclusive resort occupying the entirety of Frangipani Island in Panama's Bocas del Toro archipelago on the Caribbean coast. Part of the Costa Rica-based Nayara Resorts group, the island is covered in mangroves and faces out over the turquoise waters of Dolphin Bay Reserve and Bastimentos National Marine Park. Getting there involves a 45-minute flight from Panama City to Bocas Town followed by a private 20-minute water taxi to the island.
The resort has 16 overwater villas and two bamboo treehouses, all designed for two guests only. Villas come either with private saltwater plunge pools or glass-inlaid floors for viewing marine life below. All have floor-to-ceiling windows, king beds, and a Balinese-Panamanian aesthetic with handcrafted wooden canopies. The treehouses rise 50 feet above the jungle, built from Panamanian bamboo and hardwoods reclaimed from the Panama Canal, designed by bamboo architecture specialist Elora Hardy of Bali-based firm Ibuku.
The resort has an infinity pool, spa, fitness centre, raised boardwalk trails through the mangroves, and the world's first overwater beach built on stilts. The two restaurants, the Elephant House and the Coral Caf, use locally sourced ingredients and seafood supplied by Bocas fishermen. The Elephant House itself is a 100-year-old structure brought over from Bali.
The property runs entirely off the grid on solar power, with all drinking and bathing water harvested from rain. All structures are on stilts to minimise environmental impact. Activities include kayaking, diving, surfing, fishing, jungle hikes, sunset dolphin cruises, and day trips to nearby wildlife sites. Guest reviews consistently highlight the staff, food, and setting.
