Holetown
Originally known as Jamestown and located in St. James Parish, Holetown, Barbados, is a modern, busy place. The heart of the west coast, it has restaurants, shopping, supermarkets and nightlife.
Holetown is where the British first made landfall in 1627. Its name comes from The Hole, which is the stream discovered by the original settlers. In this area of the island, visitors will find the first Governor's house and numerous plantations worth photographing.
Another historic site is St. James Church, which dates from 1660 and is the island's oldest church. This area of the town is also home to the Bellairs Research Institute and Limegrove Lifestyle Center.
Shoppers will enjoy strolling the stores in Chattel House Village, featuring a variety of local souvenirs. If you work up an appetite, Holetown offers plenty of fine restaurants.
