Carolina
Carolina is known as “La Tierra de Gigantes” (land of giants) honoring the tallest man in Puerto Rican history, Don Felipe Birriel who stood at 7’ 11”. In the olden days, Carolina was also known as “El Pueblo de los Tumba Brazos” (arm hackers town) for resolving conflicts with a duel. This municipality lies on the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico, just east of the capital, San Juan. It was founded in 1816 by Spaniards naming it Trujillo Bajo. It was renamed in 1857 to San Fernando de la Carolina then later shortened to Carolina after Charles II of Spain.
Visitors can tour its large manufacturing industries such as: pharmaceuticals, chemicals and medical equipment. Annual festivals and events encourage visitors to participate!
