12:00 PMCreated from four Georgian Townhouses and a contemporary Garden Wing, the 142 bedrooms and suites are arranged around two 18th century style gardens. Stunningly restored interiors provide the perfect backdrop for one of Ireland's largest and most impressive private art collection.
Guests have the choice of two restaurants; the 2-star Michelin, Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, offering formal gourmet dining or The Garden Room, which features a menu designed for sharing tastes and flavors and whimsical combinations. Guests can also sip champagne in the intimate cocktail bar, No. 23, take Afternoon Tea in the gracious Drawing Rooms or during the summer months, The Garden Terrace is available for al fresco socializing and dining.
The Merrion Spa and Health Club is a tranquil and relaxing place of retreat located at the heart of The Merrion, with award-winning therapists available seven days a week to provide treatments to residents, Merrion Spa members and non-resident guests.
From the start, The Restoration of The Merrion demanded the highest standards and careful research which took Alice Roden, Interior Designer of the hotel, to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London to absorb its famous 18th century architecture and to the grand hotels of Paris. Her brief was both simple and clear - “To create a space with sensitivity to the 18th century heritage of the building, with light and airy bedrooms.”
Alice used Georgian colours throughout the guestrooms in a subtle palette ranging from light blue, turquoise, slate blue, sage green and cream. For the fabrics, she designed woven Irish linen check upholstery fabric. The colours in the linen are echoed in the curtains, made of toile de Jouey. The toile appears in a series of colourways, to tone with the walls; red/cream on the first floor and blue/cream on the second and third floors. The bedside lamps are based on 18th century Delftware and were specially commissioned by The Merrion.
Bathrooms throughout the hotel have been designed using striking Italian carrera marble and contemporary chrome fittings. The Bathrooms are remarkably spacious and airy, and all but five offer separate power showers and bath stalls.
Just one month after opening, The Merrion was awarded ‘Best Hotel Room in Dublin’ by the American business magazine FORTUNE. The rooms are the epitome of elegance, but also supremely inviting and comfortable.
All rooms in the Main House are equipped with full air conditioning, multiline telephones, fully stocked mini bars, cable/satellite television, complimentary WiFi, individual safes, Italian marble bathrooms with Asprey amenities, bathrobes and slippers.
As in The Main House, the guestrooms in the Garden Wing are all equipped with individually controlled air- conditioning, multiline telephones, personalised voice-mail with remote access, fully stocked mini bars, cable/satellite television, complimentary WiFi, individual safes, Italian marble bathrooms with Asprey amenities, bathrobes and slippers.
Alice Roden chose a blend of fabrics whose colours and textures complement each other. The bedspreads, a linen and cotton mix, were commissioned in a neo-classical acanthus design. The curtains, designed by Alice, were woven in fine wool in a subtle marled mixture of colours, they are lined with a small shirting check.
Speciality Suites
The Lord Monck, Lord Fitzwilliam and The Lord Antrim Suites are truly without
comparison. These three spacious suites on the upper floors of the former No
22 and No 23 Upper Merrion Street all feature spectacular restored Georgian
Plasterwork. The curved boat-shaped ceiling in The Lord Monck bedroom is particularly
memorable with its exquisite plasterwork featuring flowers and birds. All three

or over The Merrion's private 18th century gardens landscaped by Jim Reynolds.

Overlooking and giving access to the larger of the two period gardens, these rooms feature spectacular decorative plasterwork on the ceilings, and impressive carved doorcases.
Subtle colours, rich silks and faded linens, in period designs, blend sympathetically with antiques, specially commission pieces of furniture and priceless paintings from the hotels private art collection.
Here, guests can relax in the charming, comfortable ambience whilst indulging in Afternoon Tea or light refreshments.
In temperate conditions, The Garden Terrace at The Merrion Hotel is available for al fresco socialising and dining in an enviable location. Light lunches, afternoon tea and an effervescent Champagne bar can be all savoured at canopied tables (heaters are also on hand in case of evening inclemency) - a great spot to meet or make friends while in Dublin.
Gardens are magical places and The Merrion's Terrace Garden is no exception. Whether sampling strawberries from Executive Head Chef Ed Cooney's special summer menu, or savouring a glass of delicious Champagne, you are sure to find The Terrace a memorable spot.
The Garden Room is set within The Merrion's private garden in a newly constructed building. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open on to a terrace – for al fresco dining during the summer – and capitalise on leafy garden views when the weather is cool. The Merrion is Dublin's only five-star hotel to have a garden. The Garden Room is an all-day restaurant – somewhere to meet for brunch, a light snack, a convivial lunch with friends, a speedy salad or a relaxed dinner. The menu focuses on modern Irish food, celebrating Ireland's larder of ingredients from the land and the sea. The menu champions artisan food producers, with Executive Chef Ed Cooney's cooking bringing flavour to the fore. Sharing is encouraged, with a menu of small plates to choose from – think Liscannor Crab brioche baps, smoked carrot blunts and truffle & parmesan arancini – while fresh Irish sourdough will be made in-house every morning. A warm, inviting and relaxed atmosphere set by clever interiors at the hands of designer Alice Roden – whose work is seen throughout The Merrion. Alice is supported by Consolata Boyle, responsible for the staff uniforms, a twice-Oscar nominated costume designer (honoured for her work on The Queen and Florence Foster Jenkins).
The Merrion stands directly opposite Government Buildings in the heart of Dublin city center. On the doorstep is Upper Merrion Street, where Government Buildings, The National Gallery and The National Museum of Ireland are located. A short walk leads to the adjacent "golden mile" of lively pubs, shops and restaurants dotted around St. Stephen's Green. Grafton Street is a leisurely stroll away for all the latest designer shops. The Merrion's location is also surrounded by commerce and industry - business people coming to and from work as the city center bustles with action. Weekends in contrast are peaceful. Horse-drawn carriages clip-clop past the Georgian railings of nearby Merrion Square, which are hung with the work of local exhibiting artists.
From Dublin airport, ( DUB ) which is 8 miles from The Merrion, take the M1 Motorway southbound towards the City Centre. Once on Dorset Street, continue on straight to Bolton Street. Turn left onto Capel Street and continue on straight to the river. Turn left onto Ormond Quay and then take the next turn right, traveling over O’Connell Bridge onto D’Olier Street. Trinity College will be directly ahead. Bear right at the traffic lights, keeping the College on your left. Bear Left, to travel along Nassau Street in the direction of Merrion Square. Turn right onto Merrion Square West. The Merrion is situated at the top of Upper Merrion Street on the left hand side, beyond Government Buildings, which are on the right hand side.
