Winter Sports
World-class skiing is always a great winter sport option in Aspen, however there is a fascinating array of other activities from which to choose. Ice skating, winter fly fishing, snowshoeing, dog sledding…the possibilities are endless. <p><b>Cross Country Skiing:</b> As trails wind along Castle Creek and traverse through the Valley beneath the peaks of the Elk Mountain range, guests find themselves engulfed in beauty and silence. Lunch at the “famous” Pine Creek Cookhouse may be included for an additional fee.</p> <b>Snowmobiling:</b> Spend the day in the high country, snowmobiling past frozen blue crystal waterfalls and unsurpassed snowy vistas. Warm up in a rustic cabin with a hot lunch before riding back to Aspen for après ski. <p><b>Snowshoe Tours:</b> Learn the fundamentals of snowshoeing as you visit scenic trails with a naturalist guide. The fun terrain is appropriate for all abilities and fitness levels. A healthy snack is included or a gourmet lunch may be purchased for an additional cost.</p> <p><b>Winter Fly Fishing:</b> Mild winters and great fishing are an experience not to be missed. Summer Sports
Aspen is a fantastic summer destination for those who love the outdoors. From fly fishing to horseback riding to whitewater rafting, there are a number of activities to get you out into the invigorating mountain air during the warmer months. <p><b>Tennis:</b> Guests will be challenged to adjust their game to the thin air at this altitude. Four hard courts are available in the historic West End of Aspen. If you are interested in a tournament, a coordinator will facilitate a round robin tournament.</p> <b>Fly Fishing:</b> The Roaring Fork Valley is a truly beautiful setting for both experienced anglers and complete beginners to “wet a line” in one of our Gold Medal Rivers. Our onsite adventure guides with Aspen Outfitting can assist with excursion planning. <p><b>Mountain Biking</b> Aspen’s backcountry roads and trails appeal to all levels of cyclists. Downhill tours, overnight hut trips, and half and full day trips will take you through and over a variety of terrain.</p> <b>Whitewater Rafting:</b> The Roaring Fork Valley is uniquely situated to provide an incredible variety of whitewater trips offering varying degrees of remoteness, difficulty and scenery. The summer months offer tremendous whitewater right at our back door! <p><b>Horseback Riding:</b> Aspen offers horseback riding through breathtaking Aspen groves and up to the Snowmass Wilderness area. Enjoy the beautiful views that surround you. From beginning to experienced riders, there are a number of trips available to suit your needs.</p> <b>Hiking:</b> Backcountry excursions (two - four hours) take you by winding rivers, through meadows of wildflowers and groves of Aspen trees. With just a few running steps, the launch is precise and truly exhilarating. Your flight will be piloted by a professional USHGA certified tandem pilot from Aspen Mountain. <p><b>Clay Target Shooting:</b> Sporting clays were invented as a means of practice for game shooting. Course layouts and target presentations reflect the habit and flight of various game birds. Certified NSCA instructors will assist with shotgun safety, techniques and effectiveness.</p> <b>Rock Climbing:</b> This activity begins with movement on rock, including exercises and bouldering techniques. The time proven philosophy of “learn by doing” builds self confidence with extensive top-rope belay climbing on the magnificent granite crags of Independence Pass. <p><b>Off-Road Jeep Tours:</b> Guided 4X4 backcountry excursions are available throughout the surrounding areas of Aspen. This trip will show you the route taken by the original pioneers traveling to Aspen using supply wagons pulled by mules and oxen.</p>

Modern Mountain Cuisine meets rustic elegance at The St. Regis Aspen Resort's new signature restaurant, Velvet Buck, which is named for the velvet fur that grows on the antlers of a male deer. The restaurant pays homage to the mountain men and women who settled the Rocky Mountains in the 1800's. Velvet Buck's menu celebrates the culinary rituals of the era, with special focus on local ingredients and primal cooking techniques.
