Grand Hotel d'Angkor first opened its doors in 1932, providing what was then considered to be "luxury" accommodation for the first wave of travellers coming to see the famous Angkor Temples. Set in over 15 acres of beautifully-landscaped French gardens and built around its iconic swimming pools, the hotel provides a relaxing retreat from the temples and the bustling town of Siem Reap. Step back in time as you take the original timber elevator to your room. The hotel offers accommodation, services and facilities in a relaxed atmosphere with Cambodian hospitality and Angkorian charm. Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor is another of Indochina's historic landmark hotels having welcomed travellers since 1932. With 15 acres of gardens, Cambodia's most iconic hotel swimming pool, modelled on ancient royal bathing pools and original features like its cage elevator, it is an ideal place from which to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Angkor. There are also several world-class golf courses, including the Nick Faldo Course, designed for Angkor Golf Resort. Accommodation includes heritage rooms and suites. For the ultimate luxury, two Two-Bedroom Villas are located adjacent to the pool. The Apsara Terrace dinner and Cambodian cultural show is without doubt the best in town.

About Siem Reap - Angkor

CITY INTRODUCTION
~~~~~
HISTORY
Siem Reap -Angkor, located in Southeast Asia, is the major cultural tourism attraction in Cambodia. Siem Reap town is located 314km northwest of Phnom Penh, the capital city and can be reached all year round by direct flights from many major cities in the region including Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh, Singapore, and Yangon. Today, there are around 10 direct flights per day to Siem Reap, and more direct international flights planned for the near future. Siem Reap can also be reached via domestic flights from Phnom Penh ( approximately 40 minutes flying time) by many different types of aircrafts. There are approximately 7 daily flights between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap with 4 domestic airlines. Siem Reap can also be reached via a beautiful boat journey along the Tonle Sap River and Lake from Phnom Penh City and Battambang Province. Traveling by road from Phnom Penh and from Poipet to Siem Reap is also becoming popular.
Angkor is the life and soul of the Khmer People (who make up 90% of the Cambodian population). It is Khmer art and civilization, representing the spiritual heat and identify of the people, and the power of the Khmer kingdom, which presided over most of present Southeast Asia between 800 AD and 1430AD.
The Angkor complex covers more than 400 square kilometers. At the center of which stands Angkor Wat, the largest and most famous of all the temples and one of the seven wonders of the world. The temples were built between the 7th and 13th centuries by Khmer Kings at a time when Khmer civilization was at the height of its extraordinary creativity. Its magnificent architecture stands as evidence of the Khmer’s strong belief in religion- Hinduism and Buddhism. King Jayavarman VII was one of the powerful Khmer Kings of that period.
The most visited temples in Angkor are Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom- The Bayon, Baphuon, Phimeanakas, Takeo, Ta Prohm, Bantey Kdei, Pre Rup, East Mebon, Prasat Kravan, Preah Khan, Neak Poan, Ta Som, Bantey Srei, and the Rolous Groups.
