Splendido Mare, a Belmond Hotel, enjoys a privileged location on Portofino’s Piazzetta. Reopened in 2021 following a complete reimagination, this harbor side jewel radiates the carefree sophistication of the Italian Riviera.

It began life as a charming guesthouse for weary fishermen and travelers. Later, as Portofino’s allure was uncovered, it became the residence of choice for 19th-century European aristocrats. By the 1950s, it was witness to affluent jet-setters rubbing shoulders with legendary film stars, from Humphrey Bogart to Ava Gardner. Today, shining with a strong new personality but retaining the ethos of its roots, it is a gathering place for stylish Italians and international travelers.

The nautical spirit and relaxed refinement of its origins are evident in the 14 individually designed rooms and suites. Discovered along winding corridors, they boast rich Ligurian hues, artisanal details and picture-perfect harbour views. Murano glass lamps, understated Rubelli fabrics and vintage Gio Ponti furniture blend timeless style with a hint of dolce vita. Crowning the hotel is the light and airy Ava Gardner Suite with a magnificent terrace stretching its entire length – perfect for glittering private parties.

The restaurant offers exquisite Ligurian fare and a front-row seat on the Piazzetta action. Splendido Mare guests are welcome to enjoy a complimentary sailing excursion on a traditional gozzo, private loungers on the nearby secluded beach of Paraggi, and the exceptional facilities at sister hotel, Splendido. Walking in the protected park of Portofino

Venture on a wonderful walk to the secluded bay of San Fruttuoso, a place of unparalleled beauty that can be reached only on foot or by boat. From the entrance of the Splendido Mare, passing through Via Roma, you will arrive in Via del Fondaco. From there climb up and follow the directions to San Sebastiano where you will find a charming church called “La Cappelletta”. During this walk you will reach some of the most beautiful and unspoilt viewpoints in the area, such as Cala degli Inglesi. After reaching Base 0, you’ll start descending towards San Fruttuoso where a succulent picnic awaits either on the beach or on our wooden boat. Jump aboard and let us pamper you on the way back to the hotel.

This secluded Paraggi Beach nestles into the coastline just a short drive from Splendido Mare by courtesy shuttle. Visit an eco farm

Venture high onto the protected Mount of Portofino to visit the verdant grounds of a self sufficient eco-farm. Discover tranquil olive groves, beehives and flourishing vineyards jutting towards the scenic Cala degli Inglesi – Bay of the English.

The terrace or balcony brings you closer to the vistas over Portofino’s bustling Piazzetta and harbour. The fresh, airy spaces feature either a king or twin beds. Bathrooms have a bathtub and separate shower.
Sea View And Balcony Suite

With wonderful views overlooking the magnificent harbour and towards Castello Brown, these delightful suites feature a balcony or terrace. King or twin beds available. The stylish bathroom offers a shower and in two suites a bathtub. No connecting rooms.
Ava Gardner Suite

Stretching the length of the entire top floor, this magnificent suite has the largest terrace in the hotel – its 35 sq m expanse is adorned with a huge potted lemon tree and Mediterranean plants. An incomparable view of the harbour, promontory and Castello Brown is visible from the bedroom and sitting room. The bedroom enjoys natural light from two windows and can be configured with either a king-size or twin beds. The sitting room features an almost wall-to-wall glass window that, when open, joins with the terrace to create an expansive, half-indoor, half-outdoor space. The main bathroom offers a bathtub and separate shower and there is a second, smaller bathroom.
