• THE RAMBLAS: The liveliest street of Barcelona,limits to the south with the Port Vell (Old Port) and to the north with the Plaza Cataluña. Walking along its 1.2 Km, one can enjoy the mimes performances, step on tiles by Miró, visit the Boquería market and see artistic buildings such as the Vicereine's Palace, the Umbrella House, the Liceo Opera House and the Maritime Museum.
• BOQUERÍA MARKET: With decades of tradition behind it, the Sant Josep market (known as the "Boquería"), flies the flag for gastronomy and is a reference pointon the world gourmet map. All you have to do is take a short walk around its galleries to enjoy a fiesta of colours, flavours and aromas. It is so specialised that it is possible to find stalls that are dedicated to a single foodstuff, for example bananas, eggs or cod. Our tip: eat a tapa at "Pinotxo".
• PLAZA REIAL (Royal Square): On the site of a monastery of the Capuchin order, its main element is the "Three Graces" fountain with two lanterns designed by Gaudí.
• GRAN TEATRE DEL LICEU: The best opera voices have step its stage. The image of Montserrat Caballé crying while the fire devastated the building on 1994 travelled around the world. After the rebuilding, the Liceo hosts opera seasons not to be missed for any opera lover. Our tip: visit the backstage, tailor's area, dressing and make up rooms.
• COLUMBUS MONUMENT: It is located at the end of the Ramblas facing the sea. It is the statue of Christopher Colombus, discoverer of the "New World", pointing America. The access to the viewpoint is through an elevator inside it.
• PALAU DE LA MÚSICA CATALANA: Built between 1905 and 1908 by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner as the headquarters for the Catalan Choral Society and paid for by popular subscription, this constitutes a symbolic and sentimental piece of patrimony for Barcelona inhabitants. Its remarkable Concert Hall has for over a hundred years had the privilege of being the scene for concerts in the city.
• PICASSO MUSEUM:In the heart of the Gothic quarter, it is the key reference for understanding the formative years of Pablo Ruiz Picasso. The genius of the young artist is revealed through more than 3,800 works that make up the permanent collection providing a view of his relationship with the city of Barcelona.
• SANTA MARIA DEL MAR: This beautiful gothic church, was built by the dockworkers who carried, one at a time and on their backs, the enormous stones from the royal quarry at Montjuïc and from the beaches, where the boats that had brought the stones to Barcelona were.
• THE CATHEDRAL: In the gothic style, the present cathedral was built between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries on the site of the old Romanesque cathedral, which in turn was built on the site of a Visigoth-era church which had been preceded by an early Christian basilica, the remains of which can be seen in the subsoil. The building is a Site of Cultural Interest and a National Historic-Artistic Monument.
• SAINT JAMES'S SQUARE: This square was in the roman times the crossroads of the two thoroughfares which crossed the city from north to south and from west to east. It is now flanked by the Palace of the Generalitat and the City Hall and adopted its present structure in 1840 when it was inaugurated with the name of “Constitution Square”.
• CALL: The charm of the medieval Jewish quarter lays on the fact that it has changed very little in the last 500 years. Nowadays, the area is known for the large number of antique shops found on its narrow streets.
• KING'S SQUARE: It is the noblest urban space of the gothic quarter. On one side the Royal Palace, with its exquisite Tinell banqueting hall. On the other side, the Palatine Chapel or Chapel of Saint Agatha, and to the left the Lieutenant’s Palace, that used to house the Archive of the Aragon Crown. Finally, on the corner, the Clariana-Padellàs house, which now houses the City History Museum.
• MACBA: The building (1995) was designed by the North American architect Richard Meier and it is located in the heart of Raval’s district, a few steps away from the hotel. Trough the permanent collection and the exhibitions program and activities aspires to construct a critical memory of the century XX second half art.
• BARCELONA AQUARIUM: L’ Aquàrium de Barcelona is the most important marine leisure and education center in the world concerning the Mediterranean. A series of 35 tanks, 11,000 animals and 450 different species, an underwater tunnel 80 meters long, six million liters of water and an immense Oceanarium, the only one in Europe, turn this center into a unique, reference leisure show that has already been visited by more than 14 million people.
• LA PEDRERA: Popularly known as La Pedrera, this house represents a typical Gaudí work: the only geometric lines used are flat and curved. The entire façade is made of limestone, except for the top, which is covered with white tiles, giving the impression of a snow-capped mountain.
• CASA BATLLO: Located on the Manzana de la Discordia (a play on words: ‘manzana’ means both ‘block’ and ‘apple’ in Spanish), which is so called because in addition to this building the block also contains works by other modern architects. Gaudí renovated the focusing on the façade, the main floor, the inner courtyard and the terrace roof, as well as adding a fifth floor for the servants.
• PALAU GÜELL: Gaudí was entrusted by Eusebi Güel with the construction of the Palau Güell as his residence. It is the only building that Gaudí fully finished and has not been though any essential alteration.
• FUNDACIÓN FRANCISCO GODIA: The Francisco Godia Foundation was set up in 1998 and looks after the legacy of the businessman and collector Francisco Godia Sales. It specializes in medieval art, ceramics, Modernist drawing and painting, and 20th century art.
• 1MARITIME MUSEUM: The Barcelona Maritime Museum, located in an astonishing modernist building at the end of the Ramblas, hosts a range of collections and educational activities in the field of maritime culture.
• FORMER STA. CREU HOSPITAL (THE LIBRARY): Built by the arquitect Lluís Domènech I Montaner (1850-1923), it is the civic building most relevant from the Catalan modernism. It is in included in the Modernism route of the Barcelona Urban Landscape.
