PROS

Viking "order" from start to finish. Everyone is accommodated. Everything is thought out. Onboard crew was fabulous from top to bottom. (Crew, I believe was from the ship we were originally scheduled to sail on.) Top transfer team with ownership for late arrivals. Pristine as always. Silver seas package for drinks is a great deal. Included shore excursions were very popular.

CONS

Food was "hotel" or "wedding" food not fine restaurant food. Not bad, just not great. Menus were a bit disjointed and confusing to some guests. Varying skills for tour guide leaders really made a difference in peoples' onshore experiences. (Probably an across-the-board issue not a Viking one.) Fairly endless promotion of other Viking cruises...deals...vouchers...etc.

RECOMMENDED

Yes

Viking delivers what they promise in their promotions. This is a "comfortable" cruise with really excellent onboard service in a perfectly kept, clean environment. Everything is thought through and anticipated. I think Viking aims at a middle/upper middle-market and serves its audience well. Bigger mix of passengers than I was expecting, including young couples, families with college-age kids, singles traveling together, but primarily middle-age to elderly couples. People generally had a really nice time, despite the miserable rainy weather. Congenial, I'd say.

The Idun ship and crew, its operation and services, quality and cleanliness of the staterooms and common areas, and the experience they made possible in meeting new friends and seeing amazing places along the river met our extremely high expectations based on our 2018 Viking cruise on the Danube. We are big fans of Viking and the high standards they keep in making a big vacation to Europe a very special experience.

Two years ago we went on a Viking cruise down the Rhine. So the ship, our cabin, the food on board were fine and similar to our last cruise, which we enjoyed a lot because of the historic cities along the way. We did not like the itinerary, the ports of call, other than Budapest, on this Danube cruise. Such places as Vukovar, Nidin, Russe, and even Belgrade and Bucharest, lacked the cultural and historic beauty that this romantic sounding cruise promised. We were therefore disappointed and often bored by the tours of these places. Also Viking did not handle this cruise well; many mishaps -- such as no room keys when we boarded and no water on our first morning.
