American Independence

SHIP OVERVIEW

The ship is 226 feet long and was built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, MD. American Independence offers a comfortable exploration along the U.S.'s East Coast. Its small size allows for travel through the many narrow rivers and shallow bays of the Eastern Seaboard. Spacious lounges are gathering points for cocktails, entertainment, or an afternoon lecture with panoramic views of the passing scenery, and the dining room offers a scrumptious regional menu that changes daily.

PROS

Having their own transportation for excursions. Having own tender.

CONS

None for us since you can't control the weather.

RECOMMENDED

Yes

It was nice that Mr Ruben was able to fill in as musical entertainment when scheduled person wasn't able to attend. He was fun & excellent. Lobster bake was a great experience in a beautiful setting. It would have been nice to have more time in Bar Barbor.

PROS

Dedicated staff, great itinerary

CONS

Older ship that had mechanical problems during cruise

RECOMMENDED

No

We lost two days of our planned itinerary, including evening entertainment because the ship had to go back to port for mechanical repairs. We would recommend this cruise but not this ship.

PROS

Good food, good Port selections

CONS

Staffing shortage

RECOMMENDED

Yes

Even though there appeared to be a staffing shortage, the crew worked their tails off to keep the travelers happy. The ship was small and we were able to meet many of the people on board. We also enjoyed the ports and food service. We enjoyed the evening entertainment along with the historical aspects of the cruise
