Kadlin was the daughter of Rolf, a Norse nobleman who conquered and ruled over the Viking principality that became known as Normandy. Kadlin married King Bjolan of Scotland. Kadlin and Bjolan had a daughter, Midbjorg, who married Helgi Ottarson, an Icelandic Viking.

All of the many experiences you can have. Boyd the free free trips each day as well as the optional adventures you can pay for. Of course we always take advantage of the silver sipper package.CONS
The only downside I can think of is when we're in some port that's popular and another boat is parked next to us. Cuts down on us using our balcony.RECOMMENDED
YesWe just got back from a trip on the Viking Kadlin. This was a great opportunity to see Eastern Europe in a nice, easy way. One of the things that always attracts me to Viking is the fact that I can see so much and yet only unpack once. The tours are great, the food is great and everything about the River along ships is planned very well. The crew is incredible and we get to meet all kinds of interesting people during the cruise. We chose the great capitals of Eastern Europe trip which is 2 weeks because it allowed us to see seven different countries, five of which we've never been to. It allowed us to get a great view into the life of the many countries that used to be behind the iron curtain. In general, the people that live there were warm and welcoming and we had a great time.

YesHaving only previously visited the first three stops on this cruise, we were looking forward to some new places and experiences. Seeing the previously communist-ruled cities and hearing personal stories from the tour guide and our program director about life under communism and their family’s experiences was so interesting. And so much history in these places! Viking service, the ship, food, attention to detail, use of professional local guides was all up to our expectations based on our 2 previous cruises. Michael, our Program Director, did an exemplary job reorganizing everything when we had to leave the ship one day early due to low water levels and there was no other ship coming the opposite direction to “simply” switch with. This involved and extra night of hotel reservations, food, reorganizing buses and guides, arranging opportunities for new included tours etc.

NoneRECOMMENDED
YesPeople with mobility issues should be aware that the side excursions do require a lot of walking, and the cobblestone streets and sidewalks can be difficult.

Excellent service, good food, good excursions, and Viking's willingness to provide a special tour for the West Point group that comprised the majority of the passengersCONS
Would like to have spent more time at the D-day sitesRECOMMENDED
YesViking did a very good job in organizing a special D-Day tour of the principal battlefield areas to include Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery at Colleville, Point du Hoc, Ste-Mere-Eglise, and Utah Beach. They provided drinks at the cemetery to toast the American soldiers who lost their lives and to those who survived. They also provided flowers for all of us to lay on the graves. We had entrance to all the museums at each of the stops and a good lunch following the tour of the cemetery and Omaha Beach. Given the military backgrounds, this tour, as opposed to the standard tour, had special meaning for all of us. As always, the staff working the boat were very friendly and accommodating, and a few of them left very positive and lasting impressions on all of us.

Everything related to Viking was top notchCONS
The unexpected 95 degree weatherRECOMMENDED
YesThe Paris day trip didn't include all the major sights we should have seen. The time spent in the Louvre was way too short. We should have had a couple of hours to explore the museum without the guide. We were very impressed with Omaha beach but spent too much time at the National Cemetery, especially becausee it was so terribly hot. We thought the guide just stayed on the schedule instead of cutting it short. Viking's tour director, MiMi, was absolutely terrific. I can't say enough about her.
